I guess yesterday when the build and price for the 18' Mustang went live Ford did the same thing for the new 18' Expedition. Here’s the break down on pricing and how much it is priced out.

Base XLT starts at $52,980. 4wd on any trim level adds on $2920. There are 2 option packages available: 201A and 202A. 201A is $1485 and consists of Sideview mirrors – Manual-Fold, Power and Heated Glass, Turn Signal Indicators, Security Approach Lamps, Integrated Blind Spot Mirrors and Body-Color Caps, 10-way Power Driver and Passenger Seats with Power Lumbar and Power Recline, Leather-Trimmed First and Second Row seats Third Row 60/40 PowerFold with Vinyl seats.

202A has Sideview mirrors – Power-Folding with Autofold, Power and Heated Glass, Turn Signal Indicators, Security Approach Lamps, Driver’s Side Auto-Dimming and Body-Color Caps BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert and Trailer Tow Monitoring, 10-way Power Driver and Passenger Seats with Power Lumbar and Power Recline Leather-Trimmed First and Second Row seats Third Row 60/40 PowerFold Vinyl seats, Connectivity Package, Advanced Security Pack,Dual Zone Electronic Temperature Control, Hands-Free Foot-Activated Liftgate, Heated Steering Wheel, Instrument Panel Cluster with 8-inch Productivity Screen, Digital Display, Message Center, Outside Temperature Display and Trip Computer Intelligent Access Memory – Drivers Seat, Power-Adjustable Pedals and Steering Wheel Power Tilt/Telescoping Steering Column,Chrome Platform Running Boards, Remote Start System, Front Row Heated and Ventilated Seats ,Third Row Seats Power-Folding Headrests SYNC 3 110V/150W AC Power Outlet and Ambient Lighting. Basically a lot of shit. 202A adds on $5,605. You cant get both the 201 and 202 option packages together, just one or the other.

The Vista roof is $1475. FX4 off road package (which is mild to say the least) is $1650. 20 in wheels are a grand. With all those options and most of the others, including a $740 navigation, a base Expedition XLT tops out at exactly $67 grand. XLT Max with the same options? $70,340. Ouch

The Platinum trims to me infringe on the Navigator. For one they come pretty loaded. And you cant get the FX4 off road pack on the Platinum trims. A standard wheelbase Expedition Platinum starts at $73,905 and $76,595 for the Platinum Max. With all options comes in at $80,615 for the standard wheelbase Platinum. The Platinum Max is just $695 bucks more with all the options. That’s $1381 a month with 10% down at 5% apr for 60 months. That’s rent for an apartment for an Expedition.

But I guess its in line with the other full size suvs. What do you guys think of the pricing?

Pricing is stupid-expensive but that seems to be what people will pay for these things. I think it looks better. Maybe it’s just the picture but having the front end slope backwards instead of being a 90-degree wall makes it look smaller. However, it’s like an Explorer fucked an Edge and had a fat baby.

Yea I agree with you on the looks. The rake of the front gives it more of an aerodynamic look. And people do pay for these things you’re right about that. But I would rather have a Black Label Navigator.

I kinda feel though that the high prices are a result of the new aluminum construction and they are just passing those costs on to the consumer, which is like business of course.

That’s more expensive than a Tahoe/GMC isn’t it?

I’m guessing from design this is also covering the market left by the flex? I love the ecoboost flex

It could be? But the people in the market for the Flex dont come across as wanting one of these to me.

Yes and no, I think front and mid sections are f150, but it has independent rear suspension which it shares with the navi

It’s expensive buts it’s probably right in line with what a comparable Yukon cost. Still hate the way the new expedition looks though.

the flex was based on the taurus, this is based on an F150...so no, its not meant to replace the flex. its quite a bit bigger

You have to go to future vehicles, click for the 2018 Expedition, and once the page loads up for it, build and price is over to the right.

For shits and giggles, I equipped a 2018 Expedition with the same options (or as close as I could find) as the 2017 Tahoe we picked up in March.

Sticker on the Tahoe was $65k. The configurator for the Expedition shows $63k. Not bad. I mean, it’s a gross amount of money for a pickup truck with a trunk, but that’s where the market is.

The Tahoe had $10 in rebates which brought the price down to $55k, though.

You got a good deal with those rebates. You got what I’m assuming is an LTZ Tahoe for base XLT Expedition money. That’s not bad. People might have to wait awhile before they drop cash on this new models hood.

But still, even single trim of this this way more than what I would feel comfortable spending on it. With how impressive the new Navigator is, I would rather have that.

It looks like a flex, they don’t sell the flex anymore. Trying to cover a market has nothing to do with the size of what it was based on in it’s previous generation.

For land cruiser money, I’d get a land cruiser. I’ve always had soft spot for expeditions, but I think that’s fading.

if anything it looks like an explorer, and usually marketshare does mean trying to cover what was once there with something of similar size look and price, neither of those three things match what the flex was. the flex was closer in size and price to the explorer. the only way ford could cover the marketshare of the flex would to create another taurus wagon, nobody would have crossshopped a flex and an expedition.

Like I mentioned, I would rather have a Navigator with how impressive the 18' is. But then optioned the way I want, I would rather get an LX570 because of the reliability and resale. 8 years down the road the LX will still be worth like 40 grand while the Navigator will probably be under 15.
